The Bosphorus is an area with one of the most beautiful views in the entire İstanbul. Since it connects the Asian and European sides, it attracts attention. The Bosphorus cruises are also quite famous. The place has a different beauty at the different times of the day.
Hagia Sophia is one of the oldest structures in the world dating back to the Roman Empire era. Hagia Sophia was built in 6th century as a church. Later on in the 15th century, it was turned into a mosque by the Ottomans who took over İstanbul. Hagia Sophia then became a museum in 20th century that includes both the church and mosque structures in one place. While you see Islamic writings on the walls on one side, you can also see Christian paintings on the other. Being an important location for both Christians and Muslims, Hagia Sophia attracts many people each year.
İstanbul is home to many historic mosques built in the Ottoman Empire era. The Blue Mosque, Süleymaniye Mosque, Pertevniyal Valide Sultan Mosque, Ortaköy Mosque are only a few of the famous mosques that you need to visit.

You can find carpets, spices, fabric, lanterns, desserts, Turkish delight, ceramics and many more other traditional elements in the Bazaar. Here you can either explore the Turkish tradition or go on a shopping spree.
Since it was taken over by Mehmed II the Conqueror in 1453, İstanbul has
been an important city that the Ottoman heritage is still alive. The historic structures such as mosques, palaces, bridges and towers take you back in time while many museums hold precious items from the Ottoman Empire era. Therefore, İstanbul is an important city due to its deep history.

You can see them in mosques, cafes, book stores or the streets. They are basically the actual owners of the city.
